Who We Are

Beacon Christian Community Health Center is a faith-based community health center which shares the love of Jesus by providing quality, affordable health and wellness care to Mariners Harbor and Staten Island residents. We care for the whole person and whole family addressing individual and family physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

Our Story

Beacon Christian Community Health Center began in 2003 when God brought together a small group of Mariners Harbor and Staten Island community members concerned about lack of medical care. Mariners Harbor had been designated as the only Medically-Underserved Area (MUA) on Staten Island. Dr. David Kim, a Staten Island native, left his private practice to help start the health center. Vincent Pompa, then President of the Mariners Harbor Civic Association, rallied the local community. Armed with many prayers and generous donors, Dr. Kim in 2005 helped lead this fledgling organization through rigorous New York State Department of Health Article 28 Certificate of Need certification for what would become Beacon Christian Community Health Center. We saw and treated our first patient on August 31, 2006.

Our patient population has grown and we have grown.  In 2009, Beacon Christian Community Health Center received recognition as a Federally-Qualified Health Center (FQHC), a designation which allowed Beacon to expand its services to more people. Today, in a challenging and ever-changing landscape of health care, Beacon continues to strive, with its community, to provide high quality and affordable care as part of our mission to “love our neighbors”. We are expanding space and staff to accommodate a growing patient population with 4,618 patients seen last year that will grow to more than 6,000 adults and children cared for during over 22,500 visits.
